Mercy Health Partners Ranked Number One in Michigan
for Coronary Interventional Procedures
Findings are based on HealthGrades’ 11th Annual Hospital Quality in America Study
Muskegon, Mich. (October 20, 2008) – Mercy Health Partners (MHP) today announced that it has received the 2009 specialty excellence awards for both coronary interventions and vascular surgery from HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent healthcare ratings company. These awards place MHP clinical outcomes in the top five percent nationally for each recognized area of care.
MHP’s coronary interventional procedures rank best in the state, and its vascular surgery program ranks among the top five hospitals in the state. MHP achieved HealthGrades’ highest grade – five-stars – in several specialty areas:
- Coronary interventional procedures
- Treatment of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
- Treatment of pneumonia
- Treatment of respiratory failure
- Repair of abdominal aorta surgeries
- Carotid surgeries
- Cholecystectomy surgeries (gall bladder)
MHP is proud to be recognized as being a recipient of the HealthGrades Coronary Intervention Excellence Award and for its quality outcomes that contributed to the hospital’s high rankings, said Roger Spoelman, president and CEO of Mercy Health Partners.
"We take great pride in achieving this recognition by HealthGrades as the state's top hospital in coronary interventional care," Spoelman said. "These awards underscore our commitment to the region of providing
high quality care and demonstrate the commitment by our physicians, nurses and staff to deliver care that exceeds nationally recognized standards."
These findings were included in the eleventh annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study, which is the most comprehensive study of its kind, analyzing more than 41 million Medicare hospitalization records from 2005 to 2007 at the nation’s approximately 5,000 non-federal hospitals.
On its Web site, HealthGrades offers consumers access, through its website healthgrades.com, quality ratings of 27 procedures and treatments for virtually every hospital in the country. The Web site is designed so that consumers can easily compare patient outcomes at their local hospitals for procedures ranging from aortic aneurysm repair to bypass surgery.
