daVinci Sacrocolpopexy
Uterine and vaginal prolapse occur when the tissues connecting
the pelvis and interior muscles become weak and are unable
to hold their natural shape. This can occur in any pelvic
floor organ, which includes the vagina, uterus, bladder and
rectum. Weakening of these tissues can increase with age
and after childbirth.
To correct a pelvic prolapse, physicians perform a procedure called sacrocolpopexy.Â
In the past, this procedure was done openly for correcting this issue. With
advances in technology, this can be done minimally invasive, which has many positive
benefits for patients. Some of the benefits of this type of procedure may include
less bleeding and pain, decreased risk of infection, smaller scars, shorter hospital
stay and recovery times as well as returning to a normal schedule faster.
